Business disputes are inevitable, Lee helps clients resolve them in a way that makes the most business sense.   An accomplished litigator and business counselor, Lee is one of the founders of Gesmer Updegrove and has been with the firm for 20+ years. From day one, he has represented our startup, emerging and maturing corporate clients in business disputes throughout the United States and abroad. Most of his work involves computer, information technology and intellectual property, including trade secret, copyright, and non-competition law—specialized areas of deep fluency for Lee. Among his skills is the ability to explain complex technology issues to judges and juries—simply and persuasively. Clients also rely on Lee and his litigation colleagues to handle disputes in all areas of general business and commercial law—ranging from employment matters to contract disputes.

An adaptive, practical and persuasive style.  Gesmer Updegrove’s litigation style reflects our clients’ needs: When litigating and resolving disputes, Lee and others in the firm pursue a highly focused approach, attempting to identify key issues early and avoid inefficient discovery practices—so cases are resolved quickly and at relatively low cost. Lee often guides our clients toward the most efficient and inexpensive issue resolution, counseling them in ways to effectively avoid disputes and to explore non-litigation alternatives such as Alternative Dispute Resolution, Mediation and Arbitration. Lee is a certified mediator and a member of the American Arbitration Association’s National Panel of Neutrals.

Lee maintains a weblog on legal topics at www.MassLawBlog.com, and indulges his love of music at his music weblog, TheJazzGuitarist.
