Publishing is a traditional industry in the process of transforming itself into an exciting, interactive arena. Drawing from our strong technology expertise, we help our clients design, implement, and navigate the technology that drives this transformation.
We frequently advise our clients in acquiring electronic rights to publish and distribute research content. Our attorneys have negotiated with Smithsonian Institution and Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cornell University Research, Woods Hole, Steck-Vaughn, and other large organizations, on behalf of our clients.
We also help major publishing institutions web-enable their content, launching electronic publishing capabilities and other Internet-based products. We help load content, set up appropriate sites, design a framework for electronic distribution, and ensure an effective web-enabled business model.
Leveraging our legal, technology, and business expertise, we go beyond a service provider role to help our clients achieve their objectives. We have partnered with clients in product design, content development, and distribution efforts, which include English as a Second Language (ESL), English Language Learners (ELL), and other educational and research materials. In addition we frequently design and conduct online compliance training.
Our experience in the Publishing Industry area enables us to advise companies in working with editors, artists, and writers. We negotiate, structure, and review author and other creative agreements. We also help our clients set up and implement subscription models, training them to ensure proper use. We have negotiated agreements on behalf of our clients with virtually every major publisher that has entered into electronic or online publishing ventures, covering many types of content, from traditional text to multimedia to games.
Our publishing work ranges from large institutions to small content providers. One client, HCPro, Inc., is using its custom publishing capabilities in concert with other content-based products and services to ensure that medical institutions have the information they need to function at their optimum level. We have also assisted a national newspaper in making the transition form printed based to on-line publishing.
