EJ enjoys the intersection between law, business and innovation in representing emerging companies. As a former collegiate football player at Michigan State University, EJ employs the skills of focus, persistence and teamwork learned from football to tenaciously represent emerging companies from formation to exit.
EJ’s practice includes the following corporate matters:
• Business formation and capitalization structuring
• Equity compensation and employment agreements
• Licensing, technology and service agreements
• Angel and venture capital financings
• Mergers and acquisitions
• Corporate governance
Prior to joining Gesmer, EJ worked briefly as a litigation attorney in a Detroit firm. During that time, EJ began donating his spare time to assist Detroit startups on their corporate and business issues. It was then EJ determined to make it the focus of his career and, thereafter, enrolled in Duke Law’s LLM in Law & Entrepreneurship Program. In the Law & Entrepreneurship Program, EJ gained invaluable experience working directly with entrepreneurs and emerging companies on issues ranging from financing, strategic alliances, acquisitions, intellectual property and reorganization.
Outside of the office, EJ enjoys talking about all things Michigan State (especially football) – GO GREEN, watching his favorite sports teams, lifting weights, playing basketball and binge watching his favorite shows while eating junk food.
